BBC Crime Watch
The Brief
Each month, the BBC’s Crimewatch reconstructs the country’s toughest cases and appeals to the public for any information they might have to aid investigations. The programme features an on-set call centre, which is used to log and assess all of the calls made from viewers throughout the programme.
The Solution
The specialist IT services division of NG Bailey, was appointed in January 2011 to provide a portable telephone system with a 30 agent call centre for use on set during the Crimewatch series. An essential element of this telephone system is its portability and ease of setup, as it is only in use during the filming of the programme.
Once designs had been verified and the requirements of the system had been addressed, the company installed a Mitel telephone solution and contact centre software to meet the requirements of the set. Mitel is a global provider of business communications and collaboration software and services, which allow for reliable and portable telephone systems.
The main challenge throughout this project was the temporary nature of the structure combined with its reliability. The Mitel solution was vital to ensure that the system could be relocated regularly without compromising the equipment. The telephone system that was installed is quick to dismantle and re-install making it the most suitable solution for the environment.
The quality of work completed on the project has led to two further contracts for NG Bailey in the media sector. The company began work on a new site for the BBC in Wrexham in February 2010 and has secured the contract for the new Cardiff Bay Media Village, a purpose built structure, which will be the film set for Doctor Who and Casualty.
