Mobile Ticketing On Demand

Interchange Group

Merseyrail needed to improve the way that its Revenue Protection Officers could process ticketing transactions whilst on board moving trains - but without access to networked computers. Staff previously always had to use paper based systems which were, cumbersome, inaccurate, inefficient and time-consuming. They wanted to be able to be able to interact better with customers and generally improve customer service. Read how Interchange developed a mobile billing and ticketing application for BlackBerry Smartphones combined with a Bluetooth printing facility to give Merseyrail’s Revenue Protection Officers instant access to everything required to help customers get the right ticket easily.

TigerSpike designed and built a mobile and social media platform (powered by Phoenix*) for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, launched in 2009. The objective was to improve the awareness of PwC values and improve employee engagement. Research demonstrated that few people use the suggestion box or the company intranet to share their ideas. This mobile and web platform is intended to be used whenever and wherever the employee has the inspiration - ideas are more likely to be generated in the pub or on the way home than they are sat at your desk.

The PwC WhatWouldYouLikeToChange program was so successful with staff that it is now planned to roll it out to customers as well.

The Social Media Platform TigerSpike delivered allows the PwC team to:

- Start discussions
- Leave comments
- Rate content
- Post videos
- Respond with videos
- Share the content with colleagues
- Integrate with a mobile presence, RSS and Twitter.

The site utilises TigerSpike’s established Social Media platform (powered by Phoenix) and allows consumers to contribute to numerous discussions by text, image and video.

* Phoenix is TigerSpike's propriety award-winning, carrier grade Service Delivery Platform.

CIOs have to support business strategy, while at the same time, they’re under
pressure to cut costs and gain efficiencies. The reality is, IT departments spend too
much time on administration and not enough on innovation. In most organizations,
up to 70 percent of time and costs are spent “keeping the lights on.”

Until now, voice telephony and virtualization might have been on different planets,
so far apart were they. In the data center, voice technology was in a closet of its own,
and managed with a separate set of hardware, processes, staff, and technologies.
Now, this is changing. With the combined power of virtualization and unified
communications, mission-critical voice applications are joining enterprise business
applications in the mainstream data center.

The field engineers at Portsmouth Water were spending a great deal of their time on the road visiting customers all across the region. To receive vital information about the next job or close down a completed call out, staff had to travel back to the company’s headquarters in Havant to fill out the requisite paperwork. This labour-intensive process not only increased staff travelling time, it also reduced how many calls each engineer could handle in a day.
When Interchange analysed the requirement with the Portsmouth Water team it was identified that a key need would be to both minimise the “in use” cost of operation and keep the service team in the field to maximise productivity. The Interchange solution now integrates seamlessly with the company’s existing software package, to enable engineers to complete and submit job forms in real time. Engineers can receive electronic job sheets and send emails on the move, as well as access their Outlook calendars. All information relating to the status of jobs is now dispatched straight to the BlackBerry® smartphone.

Already a crowd pleaser for consumers and marketing managers alike, the new features will ensure the iPhone becomes an integral part of ongoing digital brand strategy. After all, it is an ever evolving global platform that now comes with a proven track record.

This is the new device that runs the 3.0 software. The ‘S’ stands for ‘speed’ and loosely draws
parallels with the Porsche Boxter S or the Aston Martin DBS. Sleek, stylish, and swift? The new
phone was announced on 8th June at WWDC and at first glance does appear to live up to
expectations.

Primarily, this document deals with the new features of the 3.0 software as it is these that will
impact most upon the marketing world. In terms of the device upgrade, the only real differences
are speed and the enhancements made to the camera.

The two main tools we use for communicating - telephone and e-mail have traditionally existed in isolated silos, independent of each other. Over time some of these technologies have been integrated - voice and IP data network, voice messaging and e-mail , video and the IP data network etc. However until now nothing has integrated all these technologies into a single, easy to manage communications solution that can be used in a controlled business environment.

Unified Communications is a concept used to describe the coming together of devices and applications used to enrich how we communicate with each other, increase our productivity, enable more efficient team collaboration and to streamline business processes.

As an integrated solution Unified Communications can greatly increase the productivity of an organisation, allowing users to make decisions on how to communicate with each other, based on the detailed presence status of the person or people they want to contact.

A tale of two technologies
Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and other IT managers straddle two worlds – not because
they want to, but because they have to.
First, there is the world of the data center. Its servers and other hardware components, and
the business applications that run on them, are the backbone of the organization. They turn
the reams of data that companies generate and collect into the information they need to
understand and operate the business.
Then, there is the world of telephony. Here, voice applications ensure that the people whose
performance determines how well the organization does, how effectively it competes, and
whether it succeeds or fails, communicate with one another in myriad ways to ensure that
information is understood and acted on. Even in today’s high-tech world, voice
communication is the beating heart of the business.

Providing lone or remote workers with a mechanism to raise an alarm, whether in a planned and controlled manner or in “panic alarm” mode, can be a key requirement for complying with Health and Safety and Duty of Care legislation.
With both a “click to trigger” instant alarm facility and a deferred alarm options, Personnel Alarm from Interchange means not only is an attacker aware than an alarm has been activated with visual and audible alerts (if required) but, perhaps more importantly, so are colleagues or a remote support monitoring unit that can offer or organise assistance.

PMA

Interchange Group

Two significant benefits of providing officers on the beat with access to PMA are increased visibility and enhanced operational efficiency. Officers won’t have to return to their stations so frequently, or need to spend nearly as much time on computers while they’re there. That’s because they will be able to achieve far more while they’re on the beat: “admin” time becomes transformed into active time in the community.
While we can provide PMA as an end-to-end solution, BlackBerry’s included; forces that have already deployed such devices can also take advantage of PMA to generate real benefits for those deployments.
